The former governor of Rivers State and immediate-past Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, recently campaigned for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Tonye Cole. During his campaign in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni local government area of the State, Amaechi referred to the current State governor, Nyesom Wike, as a drunk who allegedly spends N50 million on alcohol every week. Amaechi also criticized Wike’s potential bid for a third term through his alleged stooge.

Amaechi visited the Oba of Ogba land, Eze Chukwumela Nnam Obi II, and the people of Egi in Erema community, Omoku, Ndoni, Egbema, and Obrikom, where he also visited Eze Osoh, the Usomini of Obrikom, to further his campaign.

Amaechi accused Wike of misusing State funds and shortchanging the Rivers people by spending almost the equivalent of the cost of a primary school, which he built when he was governor, on alcohol in just two weeks. He went on to accuse Wike of shamelessly admitting to drinking expensive whiskey on live television, saying that “when Wike talks, it is alcohol that is talking.”

Amaechi also stated that the people of Rivers State have rejected Wike and his government and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral in the upcoming election.

During his campaign visits to various communities, Amaechi urged the people to vote for Tonye Cole as governor and emphasized that Cole was the best candidate among the options available. He compared the achievements of his own government with that of Wike’s and highlighted the education, healthcare, and infrastructure initiatives that his administration implemented. Amaechi also visited Iloabuchi in Port Harcourt, where businesspeople expressed their support for the APC and Cole.

In summary, Amaechi campaigned for the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, and criticized the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of being a drunk who wastes State funds on alcohol. Amaechi urged the people to vote for Cole and highlighted the achievements of his own government in comparison to Wike’s.
